About Dr Gieroba
Hip, Knee & Trauma Surgeon
Tom completed medical school at Adelaide University where the idea of fixing things with his hands first attracted him. As a first year Intern he saw orthopaedic surgeons restoring mobility and quality of life for patients. He decided to pursue a career in Orthopaedics.
After 4 years as a junior doctor undertaking various surgical terms he started surgical training in Orthopaedic surgery in South Australia and spent 5 years in the public hospitals of Adelaide learning from Adelaide's surgeons.
In 2021 Tom packed up his family and moved to Melbourne where he spent 12 months at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne doing a fellowship dedicated to joint replacement and Sarcoma surgery. He honed his skills on the anterior approach to the hip and trained on the Mako surgical robot for hip and knee replacements. Sarcoma surgery exposed him to many challenges both in theatre and in the pre and post-operative management.
In 2022, Tom came back to Adelaide ready to apply his skills to restore mobility and quality of life as he watched his mentors do previously.
When not at work, Tom enjoys spending time with his wife, 4 kids and 2 golden retrievers. He is a keen runner - part of sportsmed's run club and he ran the Melbourne Marathon while away on fellowship.
